Finding a Therapist
You should be comfortable and safe with your therapist. I recommend meeting with a few therapists, if you are able, to find the right fit for you. Check out this article for considerations in choosing a therapist. In addition to contacting an independent provider like me, here are some ways to access therapy or find a therapist:
- Contact your health insurance company to find a directory of therapists in your area who accept your insurance
- If you have Medi-Cal or no health insurance, contact your California county’s mental health and substance abuse services
- East Bay sliding scale therapy agencies list
- Northern California Kaiser mental health services phone numbers by locations (you no longer need a referral from your doctor to access mental health services; they’ll assess your needs or set up an appointment to if you call)
- Search on directories:
- Therapists of Color Bay Area, Ayana Therapy, & InnoPsych for therapists of color
- Psychotherapist Association for Gender and Sexual Diversity Gaylesta
- Search by specialties on Therapy Den and Good Therapy
